Tool Standards and Best Practice

Optimal Trace SureStart is a packaged solution for kick-starting the adoption of Compuware's Optimal Trace requirements tool within an organisation. It establishes a best practice team and provides tool and best practice training together with customised project templates, document profiles and project reports to suit your process requirements.

Sure Start is typically delivered in four separate phases, but these can be customised to suit your requirements:

Getting Started

This is a targeted 2 week engagement to get the best practice team up and running with the tool. It includes tool installation and set-up, best practice team training and the creation of an initial standards base.

Standards Refinement

Mentoring and support of the best practice team in the refinement of initial standards and the creation of one or more reference examples (for roll-out training and reference purposes). The length of this stage is variable depending on best practice team availability and the expected roll-out schedule, but for a medium-large organisation would typically represent 2 days/week over a 2 month period.

Roll-out Preparation

This phase defines and produces the customised training, working with the best practice team to employ the standards and examples developed in the preceding phase. It also identifies the schedule for introducing Optimal Trace into projects and the scope of the mentoring programme.

Roll-out

Roll-out consists of an iterative programme of training and mentoring the wider project community in the use of Optimal Trace in conjunction with the best practice standards that have been developed in the previous phases. It also includes a measurement and feedback loop to allow for refinement of standards following project-usage.
